Keeping Sobriety After Treatment

Alcoholism is an ailment of the human body and mind that can severely influence the lives of the people that have developed it, together with the lives of the people around them. Not merely is this disorders life altering, it could also be life threatening. A large number of people around the world struggle with this disease, an estimated 140 million people. However, for as much alcoholics as there are, there are also a great deal of people on earth who were able to stop drinking and stay stopped. Many people have taken the necessary steps to combat alcoholism, learned to deal with the serious nature of alcoholism, and have entered into a life of sobriety.

Maintaining sobriety after-treatment is something which may be extremely difficult. Alcoholism never goes away entirely, it’s a chronic, incurable illness. It can however be arrested. Through treatment it’s possible to attain sobriety, but preserving sobriety after treatment can be a process.

Once someone stops drinking it becomes obvious to the alcoholic that things need to change in their life to be able to maintain sobriety. If your person can be used to going to a bar each night, they will need to have a look at changing their daily practices. Some alcoholics used to drink throughout the day. Sobriety doesn’t have to be boring; being a matter of fact it is rarely dull. Many sober people of A.A. are astonished at how full their lives are in recovery.

It is proposed that sober alcoholics give attention to the next in order to stay sober:

* Live a healthy and active life style that helps over all physical, mental, and spiritual health

* Continue to see literature regarding sobriety and recovery

* Be element of a 12 step program such as A.A. or N.A.

* Avoid bad people and people that drink intensely or use drugs

* Be surrounded by supportive and positive people

* Avoid people, places and items that may trigger a relapse
